For ever still

Heraclitus' idea was that everything is in constant motion. By studying processes in nature, he became convinced that something is never finished, it is always in the making. "Panta Rhei", everything flows. Heraclitus (540 BC)

But as soon as I press the shutter button, that one captured image stands still forever. It allows me to look at that fleeting moment as time passes. What I see in the photo is no longer there in reality; leaves move in the wind, the earth turns, sand blows.

A photograph is removed from the course of events and stands alone. It is up to the photographer to give a clue to its original place in time and space, but even then its meaning can be lost forever.
