a world in black and white
My very first photo was a color one. Color photos are the closest to how we see the world and experience it as real. It wasn't until I started shooting in black and white that I discovered I could leave that true-to-life representation.
It leaves open the possibility that the world is not certain. The image we have is subjective, a perception obtained through our senses. Immanuel Kant therefore argued that we can never know reality in itself.Das Ding an sich ist ein Unbekanntes, Kritik der reinen Vernunft (1781).

By omitting color, the image becomes more abstract. A black and white photo is no longer true to life, it has become its own simplified representation. This creates space for something that you had not noticed before, and what would otherwise have remained hidden can come to light.
